For the Press – Media Guidelines

Best Practices for Covering Suicide

Contact Community Services adheres to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline media coverage guidelines. Covering suicide is never easy, but it’s very important to do it right. Research has shown that improper reporting on suicide can contribute to additional suicides and suicide attempts. For more information, please visit: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Our Important Role

Everybody has a role to play in preventing suicide, and there are lots of ways you can take part. With your help, we can spread awareness about suicide prevention and mental health, and save lives.

Other Resources

Understanding the issues concerning suicide and mental health is an important way to take part in suicide prevention, help others in crisis, and change the conversation around suicide.

The decision to share one’s lived experience of suicide should not be taken lightly. If you are considering sharing your story, we recommend that you use this storytelling checklist to help determine how to share your story safely and effectively – for yourself and others.
